O come, o come Immanuel
In the summer of 2011, I finished my choir arrangement of the latin hymn Veni, Veni Emmanuel.
I wanted to pay respect to the beautiful and simple melody, so I decided to keep it as simple as possible in the beginning and then add on complexity over the course of the five verses.
It begins with the most bare solo voice setting and ends in the dense and harmonically advanced 8-part voicing, thus creating a “crescendo” of intensity and material over time.
“The medieval advent hymn “Veni, veni Emmanuel” is sung in a new, very nice arrangement by Allan Gravgaard Madsen – a coming Danish choral classic?!”
